Public university, Phitsanulok
Naresuan University (NU), whose main campus is located in Phitsanulok, a northern province of Thailand, was named after King Naresuan the Great. Formerly a campus of Srinakharinwirot University, NU was established as a public university in 1990. Although not many years have passed since its inception, NU has already earned the reputation of being one of the most progressive universities in Thailand. It aims to be a comprehensive university dedicated to the development of world-class graduates and new knowledge for the purpose of creating excellent resources for regional and national development.
The comprehensive university lives up to the public expectations in providing diverse, cutting-edge programs through 22 faculties, colleges, and a demonstration school. Our vision statement affirms a commitment to continue proactive roles in promoting high standards in higher education both in the national and international arenas. Through ongoing review and the development of new paradigms of the best practice, the university continues to improve the quality of teaching and learning, especially highlighting the project-based, inquiry model throughout the university. All the programs are continuously enriched and informed by the rapid transfer of new knowledge used in ongoing curriculum improvements. To produce graduates of international standing, where expertise is in high demand and whose contributions and practice are of the highest caliber and integrity, the university instills in students at all levels the six “smarts”.
Naresuan University International College (NUIC) was established by the Council of Naresuan University at its’ 94th meeting, on January 13, 2001, with a view to enhancing the effectiveness and reputation of Naresuan University as an international center for learning.
Several developments led to the establishment of the International College. In 1997, the Language Centre was formed, as a joint undertaking with the University of Newcastle (UK), as part of an effort to improve the English proficiency of the staff and students, as well as to provide language instruction to the general public. After the Language Centre was founded, academic collaboration with foreign universities was established. For example, in 2000, a dual degree program (M.A. in International Tourism and Hotel Management) was offered in partnership with Southern Cross University. Furthermore, international MBA and DBA programs, also in partnership with Southern Cross University, were envisioned.
Apart from partnership programs with universities overseas, several international programs offered have been developed and instituted by various faculties within the university. Such programs include a Master of Science in Renewable Energy by the Faculty of Science (now the College of Renewable Energy), a Master of Science in Cosmetics Science and a doctoral program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, both in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Naresuan University offers on-campus dormitories.
