Chiang Mai University (Thai: มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่) was founded in January 1964, in a Royal Charter granted
by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Chiang Mai University was the first institute of higher education in
the north, and the first provincial university in Thailand. CMU, known locally as Mor Chor, is Thailand's oldest, largest, and most renowned institute of higher education.
