German as a Foreign Language (GFL) denotes the
learning, teaching and/or examination of the German
language within an intercultural framework as well as
the development of intercultural skills through studying
German language, culture and literature – at
Ramkhamhaeng University we are proud to offer you
both.

A qualification in GFL is therefore not only an excellent
qualification for teachers but also most interesting for
jobs in which you get into contact with people from
other countries, be it in tourism, as a translator or in
leading positions within the economy or the service
industries. There are practically no limits in this age of
globalization!

Deutsch als Fremdsprache bezeichnet zum einen das Lernen, Lehren und/oder Prüfen der deutschen Sprache in einem interkulturellen Rahmen und zum anderen die Entwicklung der interkulturellen Fertigkeiten durch das Studium der deutschen Sprache, Kultur und Literatur... Beides bekommen Sie an der Ramkhamhaeng Universität in Bangkok. Eine Ausbildung im Bereich DaF ist daher nicht nur eine ausgezeichnete Qualifikation für Lehrende, sondern genauso interessant für alle Berufe, in denen der Kontakt mit Menschen aus anderen Ländern groß geschrieben wird, sei es im Bereich Tourismus, in der Übersetzung oder im Dienst- leistungsbereich. Die Einsatzmöglichkeiten im Zeitalter der Globalisierung sind nahezu grenzenlos!

Our MA-programme was developed in cooperation with the renowned Herder-Institut in Leipzig, Germany, is designed to take 2 years and well structured – thus, you will be able to avoid a phase of disorientation (which most foreign students experience during their 1st semester in Germany). In addition, travelling expenses to and from your home country are not that high. So if you wish, you can fly home for a holiday after each term.

Our program is an international course of studies and the language inside the classroom is exclusively German. You can therefore use your language skills in authentic communicative situations. Furthermore, the international atmosphere with teachers from Germany and students from different countries helps you to enlarge your intercultural as well as subject-related knowledge.

Tuition fees as well as the cost of living are not nearly as high in Thailand as they are in Germany.

First semester

• Sprachkurs 1 (Advanced German Language Skills 1)
• Einführung in das Studium Deutsch als Fremdsprache (Studying German as a foreign language)
• Einführung in die deutsche Sprachwissenschaft (Principles of German linguistics)
• Einführung in die Kultur der deutschsprachigen Länder (The culture of the German speaking countries)
• Einführung ins wissenschaftliche Arbeiten (Academic research and presentation techniques)

Second semester

• Sprachkurs 2 (Advanced German Language Skills 2)
• Lehr- und Lernstrategien im Bereich Deutsch als Fremdsprache (Principles of  Teaching  and  Learning  German  as  a  Foreign  Language)
• Deutsche Morpho-Syntax (German  Morpho-Syntax)
• Deutsch für die Kommunikation (German  for  Communication)
• Einführung in den Umgang mit Literatur (Reading  Literature)

Modell A: Independent study, thesis of about 25 pages

• 13 courses (8 mandatory, 5 elective; includes a course "independent studies")
• Participation in the colloquium

Modell B: Small Master thesis of about 50 pages

• 12 courses (8 mandatory, 4 elective)
• Participation in the colloquium
• Requires written permission by thesis supervisor

Modell C: Big Master thesis of about 100 pages

• 10 courses (8 mandatory, 2 elective)
• Participation in the colloquium
• Requires written permission by thesis supervisor
• Requries GPA of at least 3.5 (almost A-) after 3 semesters
