Some important symbols in Thailand (Siam)

Chaang Thai (the Thai elephant) is the national animal because it has maintained close link with local history and customs.  It has a long life, and it is closely related to the livelihood of Thai people as a best of burden, for transportation in times of peace and war.  The chaang peuak (white elephant) is deeply connected to the monarchy.

Thai Flag - The flag of Thailand has five stripes painted with three colours, red, white, and blue.

  • Red stands for the nation,
  • white stands for spirituality, and
  • blue stands for the monarch.
Thai Language is heavily influenced by Sanskrit and other local languages.  The official language is the central dialect but there are three others including, northern, southern and north-eastern. There are 44 consonants & 22 vowels.  The language is tonal and has fairly simple verb use.
Thai Clothes - There are many kinds of Thai clothes and traditions linked to them.  Most of the traditional clothes are kept for special occasions, such as marriage ceremonies and other traditional days.  The culture is full of various kinds of uniforms to show status amongst students, government workers, and even security guards.
Thai Farmers – Agriculture is still the staple of the Thai economy and the farmer in Thailand is an important occupation that goes back far into Thai history.  The rice farmers are the backbone of the country.
Grand Palace - It is a place that our King and Queen are staying. It is a huge place and it is very beautiful. This is the most popular tourist attraction in Thailand.
Wai - Every Thai person knows how to Wai. It is the way how we say hello, goodbye, thank you, and most importantly, it is how we pay respect when we meet or leave.
The Buffalo (kwaai) is an important animal for the farmers because they use the buffalo to plough the paddies.  
Rice - Thailand is an agricultural country. There are many kinds of rice to be found in Thailand, and there are may ways to prepare it.
